We are a small, private setting with a big heart and a lot of space

Our philosophy of "where becoming an achiever is inevitable" was designed many years ago, before KingsWood first opened it's doors. The philosophy shapes every aspect of our provision, from Ducklings with our youngest children to Woodpeckers where our preschool children thrive.

Everyone is nurtured, challenged, and supported to thrive. As children move through KingsWood, this develops into independence, resilience, critical thinking, extended vocabulary, and school readiness.

A Strong, Streamlined Curriculum

  • We provide a clear, sequenced curriculum across all base rooms.
  • Our curriculum is consistent across all age groups, ensuring progression over each child’s time at KingsWood is seamless.
  • All practitioners follow the same observe, assess and planning cycle.
  • Planning combines:
    • Children’s interests and themes
    • Cohort learning intentions
    • Daily adult-led, focused teaching
    • Individual children’s missions (next steps)
  • This ensures learning is engaging, personalised, and progressive.

Child’s Voice, Independence & British Values

  • In our Woodpecker rooms, children take part in tea parties.
  • During these experiences, children use China cups, plates, and cutlery, promoting responsibility, respect, independence, and real-life social skills.
  • Tea parties are used as a meaningful opportunity for children to discuss what they would like to learn about.
  • As a small group the children listen to ideas. The practitioner encourages discussion, and supports the children to work collaboratively.
  • Together, children contribute to brainstorms, sharing thoughts, listening to one another, taking turns, and making decisions as a group.
  • This strongly promotes British Values, including:
    • Democracy (children sharing views and making choices)
    • Mutual respect
    • Individual liberty
    • Rule of law (understanding routines and respectful behaviour)
    • Tolerance of others’ ideas
  • The base room practitioners then skilfully intertwines children’s ideas with Development Matters, ensuring learning remains child-led while still ambitious, purposeful, and developmentally progressive.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

  • At KingsWood animal characters represent the characteristics of effective learning and can be found in the learning environments promoting children’s involvement. When you pop in to see us you will probably spot, Independent Ian, Creative Christine and Kind Kara out and about doing what they do best, supporting children’s understanding of resilience, motivation, independence, engagement, and critical thinking

My husband and I have been extremely impressed by KingsWood and all the staff.

We feel extremely confident leaving our son in your care and know he receives the highest care and attention. He settled very quickly into KingsWood which I believe is due to the care of the staff. When we drop him off he immediately goes to play and is happy and settled. There are always so many activities for him to do such as water play, paint, sand and he loves being outside. KingsWood is a fantastic environment for any child. My husband and I know that our son will be educated and nurtured in this environment. We cannot praise KingsWood Nursery highly enough.
