Your child has now found their feet and is ready to explore the world around them with curiosity and confidence. In our Robins room at KingsWood Day Nursery, we have carefully designed an environment that supports this exciting stage of development.

Children are free to explore both indoors and outdoors, following their interests and developing independence. Our continuous provision allows children to move seamlessly between environments, whether that’s crawling or stepping outside into the fresh air, whatever the weather. With all outdoor clothing provided, children can splash in puddles, catch raindrops, and experience the joy of nature in comfort.

Developing Independence & Routine

As children grow, we gently support their independence:

  • Sitting at low tables and chairs at mealtimes, encouraging social interaction and self-feeding
  • Beginning to follow simple routines such as handwashing and tidying away
  • Making choices in their play and learning

Mealtimes are calm, social occasions where children build confidence, develop communication skills, and enjoy shared experiences with their peers.

Creative & Meaningful Experiences

At KingsWood, we place great value on creativity, imagination, and the joy of making. Your child’s creations are more than just artwork, they are memories, milestones, and expressions of their learning.

So make space at home… because those “little things” become very special:

  • Handmade clay decorations that return year after year
  • “Stick men” that proudly sit in your kitchen window
  • Natural treasures collected from outdoor adventures
  • Unique artwork that tells a story only your child can share

These moments reflect rich learning experiences, rooted in exploration, creativity, and connection to the world around them.

This stage is full of wonder, discovery, and personality. In the Robins room, children are supported to explore freely, create boldly, and grow confidently because at KingsWood, becoming an achiever is inevitable.

At KingsWood Nursery, we understand that even the busiest little explorers still need time to rest and recharge. We work closely with families to follow home routines wherever possible, ensuring consistency and comfort for your child.

Quiet time takes place between 12:15pm – 1:30pm, where children who need a sleep or rest are able to do so with ease.

Safe Sleep

Your child’s safety and wellbeing are always our priority. In line with current guidance and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework:

  • Children sleep in appropriate sleep equipment (cots or sleep mats depending on age and stage)
  • Sleep routines are tailored to each child’s individual needs
  • Children are closely supervised, with regular checks carried out and recorded
  • Sleep environments are calm, safe, and comfortable

Nature Nurture

Your child will continue to experience the magic of our Nature Nurture sessions outdoors. These sessions offer rich, hands-on learning opportunities that support all areas of development.

From searching for worms to mixing mud pies, and exploring our Forest School field, children thrive in the freedom, space, and wonder of the natural environment. It’s a joy to see their curiosity, confidence, and imagination come to life.

Nappy Changing & Toileting

We maintain the highest standards of hygiene and care during nappy changing:

  • Nappy changes are carried out as frequently as needed
  • Staff follow strict hygiene procedures, including the use of gloves, aprons, and thorough cleaning routines
  • Children’s dignity and comfort are always respected

Parents provide nappies and wipes from home, which can either be stored at nursery or brought in your child’s bag each session.

As your child grows, we will support you with toilet training in partnership with you. There is no pressure, every child is ready at their own time. We have plenty of spare clothes and resources on hand to support this important stage.

At KingsWood, we ensure that every aspect of your child’s care, from rest to routines is thoughtful, safe, and centred around their individual needs.
